TV News research

1) The key information

  • Channel 4
  • Everyday at 7 pm
  • Jon Snow, Krishnan Guru Murthy and Cathy Newman
  • I couldn't find anything for average viewers.
  • They won the best editor, digital writer, technical innovation and best use of social media awards.

2)

  • 1982
  • Channel 4 is a publicly owned corporation whose board is appointed by OFCOM, in agreement with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
  •

3) The target audience

The target audience for channel 4 news is between the ages 20 to 50 and some youths between 11 to 16 as they sometimes get told to watch some news to know what is going on in the world.

4) The running order for three separate editions of the programme. Watch at least 20 minutes of the programme on THREE separate days and write down the following:

1)      Moday: Parties wrestle over new anti-terrorism powers.
New curriculum: what kids - and parents - can expect
World slowly waking up to Ebola crisis
Tuesday: New powers for police to seize terror suspects' passports.
Luton airport reopening after bomb scare                                                                                  School boy on run after teacher and pupil attack                                            Wednesday: Ashya's parents kept in custody as petition tops 100k.

US air strikes clear IS fighters from key Haditha Da                                                     Missing Alice Gross: man arrested on suspicion of murder

2)

  • They put the interesting/breaking news first then they put the rest of the news.

  • They put the most interesting ones first because they want the viewers to watch it till the end.

  1. WWW: This starts well and C4 News is an excellent choice for the project.
EBI: It's unfinished - you clearly haven't organised enough time to complete this project by the deadline and that is very worrying for a 60% coursework subject like Media. The final task just stops - nothing about why you think the stories were broadcast in that order. You also need much more on target audience.
LR: Do you regularly watch the programme you researched? Why/why not? Where do you get your news from? Answer in a comment below.

  2. LR: I do not watch TV news very often. I just look at the news on the internet even though I can watch it on the TV. I got it from the channel 4 website and some from the TV program
